Zuma congratulates Edgar Lungu

President Jacob Zuma has congratulated Zambia’s newly elected President Edgar Lungu with the commitment that the two Countries would work closely together.
“He also congratulated the people of Zambia for conducting a peaceful, transparent, credible, free and fair election as declared by the (SA DevelopmentĀ  Community) election observationĀ  mission” department spokeperson Clayson Monyela said in a statement.

Zuma said South Africa would Focus on strengthening the social and economic ties between the Countries.

Edgar Lungu of Patriotic Front was declare the winner of Zambia’sĀ  Presidential election on Saturday with 48,3% of the votes.

Hakainde Hichilema of the opposition United Party for National Development came in second with 46,7% of the votes.

The election was held after President Michael Sata who is the founder of the Patriotic Front passed last year October.

Lungu has been sworn in as Zambia’s sixth President after narrowly after winning a vote rejected by the opposition.

Hakainde Hichilema alleges the election,which ended Saturday, was “Stolen” and doesn’t reflect the Will of the people of Zambia.

The voting began on January 20 but was extended because of bad weather in some areas in the Counrty.
