Zola  was born Zola Nombona in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

Despite the attention she gets as a well-known television thespian, she believes she is still grounded because she enjoys spending her holidays at her grandmom’s place in rural Matatiele in the Eastern Cape.

In one interview she said “My home is in Umthatha, I can be a typical city girl and the next moment I am a rural village girl as I cherish both worlds equally.”

Zola  studied at Victoria Girls High School in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape.

After high school she left the Eastern Cape for Gauteng to study  dramatic  arts at Wits University, she has a honors degree in dramatic arts.

In the year 2012 she auditioned for a role in the second season of Intersexions, and she got the role of Shado a streetwise teenager.

In an interview she did with Sowetan it is stated  that “her father was reluctant to let her study drama, but with this role he can see that acting really is my passion. I cannot wait for my family, friends, classmates and fans to experience my talent.”

In 2013 Zola Nombona landed a feature role in a drama series, Intersexions season 2, to portray a character Shado. Intersexions also stars Phila Madlingozi, Amanda Mbatha and Lwazi Mthembu, with Bonang Matheba, Amanda Du Pont and Luthuli Dlamini.

Later in 2013 she landed a starring role in an episode of the e.tv anthology series Mzansi Love: Kasi Style (“Sexy.com”, Season 2, Episode 3). Her character, Sindi, is a writer, blogger and (single) “it girl” who is idealistic about the internet and communicates through her blog “Sassy, Single in SA”. Her co-stars in the episode were Litha Booi and Sthembiso Khoza.

Also in 2013, she had a recurring role as vain, narcissistic and utterly controlling Lerato, who uses her extraordinary beauty to lure and control adoring men, in the SABC1 sitcom Single Guys. Which starred Thabo Malema, Thomas Gumede, Motlatsi Mafatshe and Nolwazi Shange with Warren Masemola.

In 2014 she revived her role as Lerato from Single Guys in the spin-off sitcom Single Galz, in which she moves in with her girlfriends, as Lerato alongside Xoli Zondi and Vele Majenge.

In 2015 she had a starring role in the e.tv drama series Z’bondiwe as Mafungwashe ‘Roxanne’ Nozulu, an intelligent, beautiful woman who made a mistake as a teenager that has come back to haunt her, alongside Anga Makubalo, Mbulelo Grootboom, Mpho Sepeng, Israel Makoe and Khanya Mkangisa with Siyabonga Shibe.
