Zenande Mfenyana

Zenande Mfenyana is a South African Actress best known as Noluntu Memela on SABC 1’s long running soapie Generations. She was one of sixteen actors who were fired from Generations after they embark on an unauthorized strike action.

Zenande Mfenyana was born in Kagiso on the West Rand, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. She revealed this on an interview conducted by Khanyi Mbau on e.tv’s Katch It with Khanyi.

However according to the Sowetan article titled ‘Generations’ Noluntu – Her calling from God now reality” and sub-titled “THE bad girl of Generations, Zenande Mfenyana, says she did not land her role by chance or fortune,’ published on February 10, 2012 reads “Born on the East Rand, she agrees that joining Generations was the biggest break in her acting career“.

Zenande Mfenyana went on to tell Khanyi Mbau that at some point in her life she lived in Queenstown in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

Her father is a pastor, she revealed this in the same interview.

She Attended Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) where she studied drama and graduated in 2009; this is according to an aforementioned Sowetan article, however, speaking to Khanyi Mbau she merely said to studied in Pretoria.

Zenande Mfenyana was involved in some children’s productions and toured with a music show to numerous schools in Gauteng. “I did a little bit of behind the scenes and casting assistance. I learned a lot about the industry while trying to find my feet. The situation was not bad because I survived on voice-overs,” Zenande Mfenyana was quoted in the aforementioned Sowetan article.

In November 2011 Zenande Mfenyana broke into the South African entertainment scene as a complete unknown to audiences. It was on Generations, she appeared as Noluntu Memela, a daughter of a powerful businesswoman and media mogul Mawande Memela (portrayed by Nambitha Mpumlwana).

At the height of her time on that show; Zenande Mfenyana features prominently on Generations as one of the leads and since she first appeared, she has became an important part of the story lines which saw her enjoy acting directly opposite the legendary Menzi Ngubane who plays the role of media mogul Sibusiso Dlomo.

On Monday August 18, 2014 MMSV Productions with the permission of the SABC sent shock-waves across South Africa when they announced that they had fired the entire principal cast of the show which included Zenande Mfenyana as one of sixteen members of the show’s principal cast.

Mfundi Vundla, creator of Generations, asserted that the show will go on. However, the departure of the principal cast forced Generations to a hiatus from October 1, 2014 to November 30, 2014.

The producers brought in new cast members and brought back Connie Ferguson and Rapulana Seiphemo.

As of December 1, 2014 Generations is back on air which conclusively confirm that the fate of the fired 16, which includes Zenande Mfenyana, has been sealed.

The fired sixteen (16) actors – including Zenande Mfenyana – are as follows: Anga Makubalo (MJ Dlomo), Atandwa Kani (Samora Lembede), Katlego Danke (Dineo Dlomo), Mandla Gaduka (Selwyn ‘Choppa’ Maithufi), Menzi Ngubane (Sibusiso Dlomo), Nambitha Mpumlwana (Mawande Memela), Patrick Shai (Patrick Tlaole), Slindile Nodangala  (Ruby Dikobe), Sophie Ndaba (Queen Moroka), Seputla Sebogodi (Kenneth Mashaba), Thami Mngqolo (Senzo Dlomo), Thato Molamu (Nicholas Nomvete), Winnie Ntshaba (Khethiwe Buthelezi), Zenande Mfenyana (Noluntu Memela), Zikhona Sodlaka (Priska Nomvete) and Zolisa Xaluva (Jason Malinga).

 

 

Post Generations, 2015 – to date

As of March 2015 Zenande Mfenyana stars as Reba Rankhoana in a new e.tv telenovela, Ashes to Ashes, alongside some former Generations cast-mates; Maggie Benedict, Mandla Gaduka, Nambitha Mpumlwana and Patrick Shai.

Ashes to Ashes developed by Genna Lewis and centers around a Tembisa based family funeral business, it also stars; Chumani Pan, Craig Urbani, Khanyi Mbau, Nyaniso Dzedze, Richard Lukunku and Thabo Malema.
