Thandeka Zulu was born in the town of Tongaat situated on the banks of the Tongati River in north of the city of Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.

She is part of the Durban, KwaZulu-Natal province based award winning trio, Afrosoul, whose other members are Lion Lish (Surgent Malishe) and Jakalase (Sabelo Ngema).

It is understood that she is not the original member of the group as it was formed in year 2000 by the original members who met at the academy belonging to the legendary South African playwright, Mbongeni Ngema.

Furthermore, it is unclear when Thandeka Zulu became the member of Afrosoul. A November 2013 Independent Newspaper’s Tonight article about Afrosoul stated that the group had released an album titled “Rebirth” a year earlier (2012), presumably with her as she was also pictured in that article along with the other two group members.

In 2013 she made her acting debut in what was presumably a sequel of an independent KwaZulu-Natal made South African film, Kwaito Church Service 2, which also appeared Shadrack Ngema of Emzini Wezinsizwa fame.

A December 2014 Daily Sun newspaper article titled ‘Thandeka’s Time to Shine’ reported that Thandeka Zulu was due to appear on a new drama series, The Girl is Mine, where she was to portray the character of Pearl (a bisexual dating the boss lady at work).

In that article she was quoted saying, “I see myself growing in the entertainment industry ever since I’ve been introduced to acting. This is the second biggest task on small screen. I’m so happy to see myself going this far. I also thank Afro Soul for allowing me to pursue acting while I’m still singing with them.” According to the same article that series was expected to go on air in February 2015 but it is unclear if the show ever went on air.
