Although today she is among Muvhango’s firm favourites, Simphiwe Ngema has previously stated that it was not easy getting on the show.

“It was not smooth sailing though. I auditioned 17 times, starting with other roles. But eventually I got the part of Thuli three years ago. It has opened new avenues for me,” she told the Sunday World in March 2015.

In an interview she did with Bona magazine in August 2014 she recalled the tumultuous Muvhango audition which began sometime between 2008 and 2009.

“I started auditioning between 2008 and 2009, at first I auditioned for Pearl’s role (the receptionist), then it was Vuyiswa (Phila’s sugar mommy) then Juby (James girlfriend) They never said there was anything wrong with me, they were just figuring out which roles they wanted to create that would be suitable for me.

“Then finally they Created Thuli which they felt was suitable for me. I wanted it so bad and giving up was not an option for me. It was a long process but it was worth it,” Simphiwe Ngema told Bona magazine.
