Sihle Ndaba

Sihle Ndaba is a South African actress who is best known for her portrayal of Smangele Maphumulo on SABC 1’s telenovela, Uzalo. She contested the eighth season of M-met’s Idols South Africa which was won by Durban born Khaya Mthethwa.

Sihle Ndaba was born Siphesihle Ndaba in Ermelo in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa.

When she completed matric Sihle Ndaba enrolled at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) where she studied towards a National Diploma in Musical Theatre.

After completing her studies Sihle Ndaba joined the cast of the hit Broadway musical, Walt Disney’s The Lion King, which  tour Singapore in 2011.

Upon return to South Africa she entered Idols South Africa (Idols SA) in its eighth season; she exited that competition after reaching the top eighteen and eventually Khaya Mthethwa of Umlazi in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal would be crowned winner of that season.

She then portrayed the character of Pru on Mzansi Magic’s John Kani created original telenovela, iNkaba. She also portrayed the character of Qiniso in the SABC 1 science fiction drama series, Room 9.

Sihle Ndaba headlined the show, Girls Gone Wild, at Morula Sun Casino in Mabopane, Tshwane in he Gauteng province. Its a cabaret show that we do every Friday and Saturday night. I studied musical theatre, which provided the ability to do all that. I like to sing and dance,” She was quoted by the Sun.

It has been reported that she The World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles in the United States of America and has appeared on numerous stage productions at National Children’s Theatre and Market Theatre including at assistant director on the production, Under the Baobab Tree, and the stage portrayal of Ntombi on Kwela Bafana.

Uzalo, 2015 – to date

In February 2015 Sihle Ndaba began portraying the character of Smangele “Sma” Maphumulo on SABC 1’s hit telenovela, Uzalo, which stars Leleti Khumalo, Mpumelelo Bhulose, Dawn Thandeka King and Bheki Mkhwane with Naymaps Maphalala and Kay Sibiya.

Uzalo CastIn 2014 several media reports stated of the impending SABC 1 Zulu telenovela set to rival that of Mzansi Magic, IsiBaya. Those reports stated that the show was created by Duma Ka Ndlovu known for creating SABC 2’s hit soap opera, Muvhango, and being produced by the daughter of South African President Jacob Zuma, Gugulethu Zuma-Ncube.

On February 09, 2015 Uzalo went on air; on the show Sihle Ndaba portrays the character of of Smangele “Sma” Maphumulo, a church-going matriarch of the child headed home. Smangele “Sma” Maphumulo’s brother is Muzi “Gxabhashe” Xulu’s (portrayed by Mpumelelo Bhulose) right hand man, Zweli “Mastermind” Maphumulo (portrayed by Ntokozo Dlamini). She also has a sister, Amandla Maphumulo (portrayed by Lungelo Madondo). Smangele “Sma” Maphumulo is in a relationship with the brother of Muzi “Gxabhashe” Xulu, Mkhonto Xulu (portrayed by Bonga Dlamini). For her portrayal of Smangele “Sma” Maphumulo on Uzalo Sihle Ndaba won a Sabela Award for a Supporting Actress at the 2015 Durban International Film Festival.
