Shakes Mashaba’s Bafana Bafana off to a good start

Shakes Mashaba traveled with Bafana Bafana to Omdurman, Sudan to play their first 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan at Al-Merreikh Stadium. Sudan v South Africa took place on Friday September 05, 2014. Sibusiso Vilakazi came off the bench to score twice while Bongani concluded the scoring to secure a 3-0 victory for South Africa.

Sibusiso -VilakaziThe match start sketchy and disorderly but it was Sudan who quickly found their groove and started making the big moves towards Senzo Meyiwa and his defence.

Debutant Bongani Ndulula showed glimpses of excellence going forward as his combination with Tokelo Rantie seemed to work but it was Sudan who continue to dictate the proceedings in the first half.

Senzo Meyiwa was called on on several occasions and each time he proved up to the task. Halfway through the first half, South Africa started to relax and play.

When half-time came, the score was still locked at 0-0 with Sudan seeming to have a slight upper hand to a barely jelling Bafana Bafana.

The second half came, Shakes Mashaba made his first change when he introduced Themba Zwane in the place of Keagan Dolly. He later introduced Sibusiso Vilakazi who became chief destroyer within minutes of coming in.

Sibusiso Vilakazi scored twice and Bongani Ndulula scored once as South Africa overwhelmed Sudan 3-0 and Shakes Mashaba is off to a good start.

He will return to South Africa with his squad to face a much tougher opponent in CAF Africa Cup of Nations defending champions – Nigeria at Cape Town Stadium (South Africa vs Nigeria, Cape Town Stadium, Wednesday – September 10, 2014).
