Sfiso Ncwane was born on April 21, 1979 in Mthwalume in the south of the city of Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. He was a son of David Wewe Zikhali and Fikile Ncwane. He grew up in Mthwalume where he was raised by his aunt, this after he got seperated from his mother at an early age.

According to an article published by the tabloid, The Daily Sun, his mother, Fikile Ncwane worked as a domestic worker to support him although they didn’t live together; “I worked from house to house as a domestic worker. And I earned only a little. I couldn’t take him with me to work so he had to stay with different families. But I made sure that I sent him the little that I earned. His father didn’t care. In fact, he ran away and returned only when Sfiso was famous,” she was quoted saying.
