Senzo Meyiwa of Orlando Pirates has been shot dead

Senzo Meyiwa of Orlando Pirates has died after being shot. Reports have emerged that Orlando Pirates star goalkeeper has been shot dead, it is not yet clear what happened or where but it has been confirmed that Senzo Meyiwa has passed away aged 27.

Sanzo Meyiwa Has DiedSenzo Meyiwa appeared for the last time for Orlando Pirates last night, Saturday October 25, 2014, at Orlando Stadium in a match against Ajax Cape Town before his untimely death.

In that match Orlando Pirates steamrolled Ajax Cape Town 4-1.

Senzo Meyiwa joined Orlando Pirates youth structures in 2002 and in 2005 he joined the senior team.

He was there at the height of Moeneeb Josephs career and watched from the sidelines as the Soweto giants embarked on 24 month dominance winning 6 trophies including 2 league titles.

Senzo Meyiwa played a crucial role during this period as Josephs faced a string of injuries.


  • Death

Senzo Meyiwa was shot in Vosloorus, Gauteng, South Africa on Sunday night on October 26, 2014 – according to a tweet by the South African Police Service twitter account, Senzo Meyiwa was shot during an ensuing altercation when 2 men entered the house – in which seven people were inside – while one remained outside.

He was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival.

It has been reported that no one else in the house was injured.

Three suspects in the shooting of Senzo Meyiwa fled on foot.
