Richard Henyekane died in a head-on collision with a truck

Richard Henyekane died in the early hours of Tuesday morning of April 7, 2014 after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a truck in Bethlehem in the Free State province of South Africa. Google+

Richard Henyekane“Free State Stars hereby expresses its heartfelt condolences on the passing away of star striker Richard Henyekane in the early hours of this morning.

“Henyekane was travelling with four other passengers when they were involved in a tragic motor vehicle accident.

“He was, unfortunately the only one to lose his life in this incident.

“We wish to say to the Henyekane family that they must know that we are with them at all times, and trust that they will put all their sorrows in the hands of God the Almighty in this hard period.

“To the Stars family of fans, sponsors, supporters and others we believe that this is a period in which you will remain steadfast in the praying for Henyekane’s teammates as they come to terms with this sad moment.

“South African football has lost yet another one of our promising players..go well ’Kimberley Express,” Free State Stars Football Club said in a statement to the media.

Free State Stars General Manager Rantsi Mokoena was quoted saying “It’s been a bit of tough one this morning.”

“(I’ve) been up since 01:00 obviously when we received the news and we rushed to the scene and that is where it was really confirmed indeed, Richard had passed away.”

Richard Henyekane was a Mamelodi Sundowns forward who was on loan at Free State Stars at time of his death.

He spent eleven (11) years in the Premier Soccer League of South Africa (PSL) across four different football clubs; he debuted on February 8, 2004 playing for Premier United-Hellenic and then moved to Lamontville Golden Arrows, later Mamelodi Sundowns who loaned him to Free State Stars.

At the age of 26 years Richard Henyekane made his first appearance for Bafana Bafana in a 3-1 defeat against Serbia on August 12, 2009 and went on to make a total of nine (9) appearances for his country.
