Peet van Zyl, the manager of Oscar Pistorius, was quoted saying “Mr Pistorius was a global sporting icon before the shooting who raised awareness…[of] various aspects…with no renumeration[sic]”.

He went on to say “I am yet to meet a more accommodating, a more humble person… He would also go the extra mile to spend time with people.”

Peet van Zyl is testifying for Oscar Pistorius in favour of a lighter sentence in the culpable homicide conviction relating to the shooting and death of Reeva Steenkamp on February 14, 2013.

The state had pursued a murder judge to no success as Judge Thokozile Masipa reached a conclusion that Oscar Pistorius did murder Reeva Steenkamp.

The sentencing proceedings began on Monday October 13, 2014 where Peet van Zyl testified giving details of Oscar Pistorius’ efforts to help uplift and enrich the lives of others before he shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

He told the court that never wanted people to know that he donated the funds to help make prosthetics.

His client, Oscar Pistorius, was involved with a university in Glasgow to develop prosthetics that were more durable, cost effective and comfortable.

He was also involved with charities like Reach for a Dream and the United Nations Children’s Fund free of charge and at his own cost and time.
