The match was the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup; the first led took place on May 15, 2015 Stade omnisports Modibo Keïta in Bamako in Mali where Orlando Pirates won 2-0 thanks to goals from Thamsanqa Gabuza and Oupa Manyisa.

An away victory for Orlando Pirates meant they would be a step closer to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages come the second leg.

Orlando Pirates went to the second leg without central defender Siyabonga Sangweni and midfielder Mpho Makola who missed out due to suspension.

With a goal deficit Orlando Pirates who are hardly a small team in Africa were always going to be a difficult ask for AS Kaloum.

Orlando Pirates went into the match already four (4) weeks into their domestic season break as they concluded their 2014/15 Premier Soccer League on May 09, 2015.

In the match Orlando Pirates opened the scoring through Kermit Erasmus on the 21nd minute and took their aggregate to 3-0 with two away goals – essentially making what was already difficult for AS Kaloum even more so.

In the first minute of the second half AS Kaloum equalized and brought aggregate to 3-1 however, in the 5nd minute Thamsanqa Gabuza found the back of the net for the home team making it 2-1.

In the 58th minute Thamsanqa Gabuza score once again making it 3-a and in the 75th minute Sifiso Myeni put it beyond doubt when he scored the fourth for Orlando Pirates.

The match finished 4-1 (6-1 on aggregate) and Orlando Pirates secured passage to the group stages of the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup, furthermore, they are the only South African side remaining in any continental competition.
