Nyembezi Kunene has died

Nyembezi Kunene has died aged 57 years old. This was confirmed by his son, Sonqoba Kunene, on Sunday morning of June 5, 2016 to eNCA. Nyembezi Kunene reportedly died on Saturday night of June 4, 2016 at the Lesedi Hospital in Soweto after a long battle with diabetes. Google+

nyembezi+kuneneIt has been a terrible day so far. We have had family members and relatives strolling into our household to obviously pay their last respects and to offer their message of condolences. He passed away yesterday evening, it’s still very fresh,”Sonqoba Kunene said.

“A few hours ago, a legend departed this land. The great Nyembezi Kunene – actor, director, playwright and producer, has passed on. Following a prolonged illness, Nyemza lost his battle with Diabetes and died peacefully at the Lesedi Hospital in Soweto, late on Saturday evening.

“He will be remembered for his many roles he played in various TV and Film productions in a career spanning well over three decades. May his soul Rest In Peace. You fought a great fight, a hero to the end. We will miss you Nyemza. This is the final curtain call, after decades spent entertaining South African audiences.

“You stayed true to your craft till the end. You were a great father and your teachings will live on, not only in your children’s lives, but also in the lives of many your work and passion for the performing arts have changed. Hambe kahle Mntimande! Bambolunye! Ngwenya! Madonsela! Rest in Peace Baba…” Sonqoba Kunene wrote.

Nyembezi Kunene is best known for his portrayal of Mchunu, the security guard, on the SABC 1 popular sitcom  “Emzini Wezinsizwa”. In recent years he gained further acclaim and popularity for his portrayal of fan favorite “Jabulani Dlomo”on SABC 1’s soap opera Generations alongside Menzi Ngubane.

In a career reportedly spanning 30 years; he appeared in numerous stage productions, films and television shows including; Gaz’lam, Intersexions, IsiBaya, Mfolozi Street and SABC 1’s enduring educational television series, Soul City, as well as e.tv’s Hamilton Dlamini, Nokuthula Ledwaba and Nomzamo Mbatha fronted “Umlilo”. At the time of his death Nyembezi Kunene was portraying the character of “Dollar”on e.tv’s soap opera, Scandal!.
