Mmabatho Montsho

Mmabatho Montsho  is a South African actress who rose to fame as Lumka Dlomo on SABC 1’s prime time sopie, Generations and later as Thembi Phakathi on e.tv’s Rhythm City.

Mmabatho Montsho  was born at then Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, Johannesburg, Gauteng South Africa.

She was raised in  Carletonville, West Rand.

She has two brothers and one sister.

Mmabatho attended Greenside High School in Johannesburg.

She then went on to study Audio-Visual Multimedia through the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Mmabatho founded a clothing line called Black Olive with a high school friend.

She is perhaps best known for her portrayal of the daughter of media mogul Sibusiso ‘Ngamala’  Dlomo (portrayed by Menzi Ngubane), Lumka Dlomo on SABC 1’s sopie, Generations.

In 2006 she guest stared on SABC 1’s A Place Called Home.

In 2007, Mmabatho joined the cast of e.tv’s Rhythm City, at the time, a new show premiered after e.tv’s flagship sopie, (at the time) Backstage, went off air permanently.

On Rhythm City she played the role of Thembi Phakathi, a journalist and daughter of famed Gospel Star, Rachel Phakathi,  who is struggling with alcoholism.

Also in 2007, she had a starring role as Lerato, Jacob’s materialistic girlfriend, on Jacob’s Cross which aired on M-Net Series.

In 2009 she had a lead role on SABC 2’s 90 Plein Street as Puleng Letsedi. She also joined the third season of Artcha as host replacing Anel Alexander, Masello Motana and Eloise Cupido; three co-hosts from two previous seasons.

In 2012 she hosted the second season of SABC 1’s Play Your Part, a Brand South Africa’s campaign featuring inspirational stories of ordinary citizens working for the betterment of their communities.

In 2014 she appeared on the fourth episode of I Love South Africa, an e.tv game show.

As a director Mmabatho Montsho has previously directed the episodes of e.tv’s soap opera, Scandal!.

In February 2015 she joined the case of SABC 1’s original drama series, Tempy Pushas, for its second season – starring; Sdumo Mtshali, Pallance Dladla, Akhumzi Jezile, Camilla Waldman, Motshabi Tyelele, Paballo Moganedi, Mara Louw and Mothusi Magano. On Tempy Pushas Mmabatho Montsho portrayed the character of Noxy.
