Mogau Motlhatswi

Mogau Motlhatswi is a South African actress best known for her role as Mapitsi, the ex girlfriend of Thabo ‘Tbose’ Maputla and mother of his child in the SABC 1 youth drama series turned soap opera Skeem Saam.

Mogau Motlhatswi was born Mogau Paulina Motlhatswi in Limpopo province, close to Lebowakgomo and moved to Johannesburg where she attended Piet van Vuuren Primary school in Brixton.

In primary she was into sports and she excelled at athletic, cross country and netball.

She went to St Mary’s high school at Waverly where she took drama, history and geography to matric. Her favourite subjects were dramatic art and history.

After matric she went to University of Johannesburg and studied audiovisual communication.

The acting wasn’t her childhood dream she wanted to be a lawyer, then a radio personality.That dream changed when she learnt about film and theatre, now she ultimately wants to be an impactful, amazing director.

In an interview she [Mogau] said Edwin Cameron is her inspiration, “he is the most amazing man I have ever met, and his success is something I would like to aim for. He is respected worldwide and has a heart of gold. My grandmother Sophie Kekana, the strongest woman alive is also an inspiration, she is very strict and we didn’t see eye to eye but it took a lot for her to take care of the family as she did and continues to do.”

Mogau is terrified of failure and scared of frogs. She is inclined to be short tempered and a tad stubborn. It upsets her when she come across people who still believe that men are superior to women.

When she [Mogau] is not shootings, she listens to music and spends time with those she loves, and listening to Yfm, and her favourites actors are Vusi Kunene, Jamie Bartlett, Robert Whitehead, Xolile Tshabalala, Leonardo Di Caprio and Meryl Streep.


In 2011 she landed a leading in the SABC1 youth drama series turned soap opera Skeem Saam, as Mapitsi the ex girlfriend of Thabo Maputla (Thabo Mamabolo), which starred Thabo Mamabolo, Clement Maosa, Eric Macheru, Natasha Thahane and Amanda du Pont.

In 2014 she had a guest starring role on the SABC1 AIDS drama Soul City as Bulelwa.
