Lerato Kganyago

Lerato Kganyago is a South African television personality who is best known as host of a Soweto TV talk show, The LKG Show as well as SABC 1’s lifestyle magazine show, The Link, alongside Sinazo Yolwa as her entertainment correspondent.

Lerato Kganyago was born in Diepkloof, Soweto in the Gauteng province of South Africa.

She began schooling at Ipolokeng Primary School in Diepkloof and later attended Boksburg High School and matriculated in 2001.

She studied Travel and Tourism, and Public Relations at Damelin College where she graduated with  a Diploma.

In an interview with the Sunday World, Lerato Kganyago was unclear about whether or not she had siblings.

She was quoted as saying “… On my mom’s side I don’t have any siblings … I’m an only child. Let’s stick to that”.

Lerato Kganyago’s earliest inroads into the South African entertainment industry were back in 2002 when she entered Miss Jam Alley.

A beauty pageant organized by SABC 1’s music variety show during its heydays, Kganyago went o to be crowned Miss Jam Alley 2002.

She continued to experience sustained moderate success on a provincial level over the next few years.

In 2003 she entered a beauty pageant organized by the City Press and was a was a finalist there. She was crowned Miss Soweto in 2005. She reportedly spent sometime on Jozi FM alongside DJ Hluks and had her earliest television appearance on the Phat Joe Show an actress on filmed comedy skits.

In 2008 she began hosting her own show, The LKG Show on Soweto TV, a Gauteng province community television station. Prior to Soweto TV, Lerato Kganyago was reportedly a  flight attendant for SA Express for four years, this is not unheard of as Pearl Thusi has previously mention on several occasions that she had tried to find a job in a different field prior to her success in the entertainment industry.

In 2012 Kganyago broke into mainstream when Bonang Matheba reportedly accepted a job on Clash of the Choirs and leaving that of the new show, The Link,  with a vacant post. The job was offered to Kganyago who would from then on be known for hosting that show.

In 2013 she appeared on 10 over 10 as a commentator, a Vuzu tv documentary titled I am and hosted Crown Gospel Music Awards which were broadcast live on SABC 2.

Kganyago has also been a subject of an episode of Zaziwa hosted by Pearl Modiadie and that of The Close Up with Nicky Greenwall.

Personal Life

Lerato Kganyago has long been romantically linked to Mamelodi Sundowns forward Katlego Mashego although she has constantly evaded the subject but maintained that she is in a relationship. There has also been reports that they are engaged to be married.

She is the niece of SABC spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago.

In 2013 Kganyago had to undergo surgery as a result of fibroids growing in her wound. A condition that was causing her stomach to swell, “I looked four months pregnant as the fibroids were each the size of a tennis ball, and I hated my body” she said in an interview with Drum.
