Kay Sibiya was born Khumbulani Sibiya in Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.

He has a little sister whom he mentioned in a Daily Sun report about his first television job, “I was so excited, and my little sister was the first person I told about the news.”

On numerous occasions he has referred to Rev Tim Omotoso as his “role model” and “spiritual father”; ” I want to thank my family and my mentor, Reverend Tim Omotoso, who believed in me more than I could believe in myself. He taught me the importance of believing that one can get whatever one wants,” he was quoted by the SunBuzz.

Kay Sibiya attended Riverdene Secondary School in Newlands West, a suburb of the city of Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal province.

He later matriculated from Queensburgh Boys High School located in Queensburgh a middle class town in the southwest of the city of Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal province.

It is understood that Kay Sibiya began studying after matriculating but later dropped out, “I dropped out because I was immature and lacked self-discipline, such as not attending classes on time or missing my tutorials. Next year I want to go back to school because it is very important to have an education as a back-up plan that no one can take away from you,” he was quoted saying in 2013.

“On 8 October 2012 I left Durban for JHB [Johannesburg] with R50 in my pocket to pursue my dream find to my pot of gold in Johannesburg. It has to be the most daunting moment but one thing was for sure, I was destined to make it work,” Kay Sibiya told Drum magazine.

My parents were a little bit angry, but I did not want to excite many people before I had signed on the dotted line,” he was quoted by the Daily Sun as saying.
