e.tv challenges for 8pm and introduces other changes to its programming

The 8pm (20:00) prime time slot has long been dominated and monopolized by the SABC 1’s longtime running soapie, Generations, until the dramatic events that culminated in the dismissal of principal cast which resulted in the show going on a two month hiatus from September 1 to November 30, 2014 and returning on December 1 of the same year. Cast of etvs Ashes to AshesAt one point e.tv made a foray for the 8pm (20:00) time slot with their then new soapie, Scandal!, however Generations and its loyal followers remained resolute in the face of the new show.

Years later e.tv will make yet another attempt at the same time slot with a new local show, Ashes to Ashes, buoyed by the five actors who previously starred on Generations.

Tonight, March 2, 2015, e.tv introduces a myriad of changes which heavily favour local talent and productions houses; essentially, the four hours between 6pm (18:00) and 10pm (22:00) will be strictly local with one of those four hours going to the news at 6:30pm (Zulu News, eNews Izindaba) and 8:30pm (English News, eNews Prime Time).

Katch It with Khanyi, a Khanyi Mbau hosted talk show, will remain in its original time slot of 6pm followed by eNews Izindaba at 6:30pm – a time slot long held by Rhythm City.

Rhythm City moves from 6:30pm to 7pm, a time slot long held by eNews Prime time. The English news will relocate to 8:30pm.

Scandal! which originally aired at 8pm found a home a 7:30pm and will remain there.

The 8pm time slot which recently belonged to Seinfeld now goes to a new telenovela, Ashes to Ashes, starring among other former Generations stars; Maggie Benedict, Mandla Gaduka, Nambitha Mpumlwana, Patrick Shai and Zenande Mfenyana as well as Chumani Pan, Craig Urbani, Khanyi Mbau, Nyaniso Dzedze, Richard Lukunku and Thabo Malema.

The English news, eNews Prime Time, will now air at 8:30pm followed by an hour long new drama series, Umlilo, starring; Daniel Hadebe, Gcina Mkhize, , Hamilton Dlamini, Nokuthula Ledwaba, Nomzamo Mbatha, Omuhle Gela and Thato Molamu.

The e.tv schedule changes are:

  • 6:00pm – Katch It with Khanyi (Talk Show)
  • 6:30pm – eNews Izindaba (IsiZulu News)
  • 7:00pm – Rhythm City (Soap Opera)
  • 7:30pm – Scandal! (Soap Opera)
  • 8:00pm – Ashes to Ashes (Telenovela, New Show)
  • 8:30pm – eNews Prime Time (English News)
  • 9:00pm – Umlilo (Drama Series, New Show)

Furthermore; from March 2, 2015 e.tv will air Steve Harvey Show at 4:30pm (the new talk show as opposed to the old Warner Brothers sitcom starring the same person which also previously aired on e.tv) instead of The Queen Latifah Show. Steve Harvey Show is also airing on SABC 1 on the same time slot.
