The relegation threatened Durban outfit, AmaZulu, are within touching distance of salvation following a 1-0 victory over Free State Stars on Saturday afternoon April 04, 2015 at Moses Mabhida Stadium in the city of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. Google+

Mbulelo MabizelaAmaZulu have now played five (5) matches in the 2014/15 Absa Premiership without defeat and collected eleven (11) points out of a possible fifteen (15).

Following a 1-0 defeat at home against 2013/14 Absa Premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, AmaZulu embarked on a dramatic point collecting run starting with an unbelievable 5-2 drubbing of 2014 Telkom Knockout champions, Supersport United.

Riding on the high of the victory against Supersport United, AmaZulu were brought back to earth by Mpumalanga Black Aces when they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Mbombela Stadium.

In what seemed like a potentially impossible task, AmaZulu walked all over BidVest Wits at Moses Mabhida Stadium when they brushed them aside by 3-1.

Going into a match against Chippa United AmaZulu were the favourites to go all the way but failed to register a victory they were held to a 1-1 draw by the struggling Port Elizabeth outfit.

On Saturday afternoon on April 4, 2015 AmaZulu went into a match against fourteenth placed Free State Stars sitting on 17 points and dead last on the Absa Premiership table.

Free State Stars were tied for points at 22 with fifteen placed Moroka Swallows; victory for AmaZulu would have meant they are now sitting within two points of both number fourteen and fifteen.

This was put beyond doubt by Mbulelo Mabizela’s finish after a corner-kick in the 55th minute; AmaZulu held for the remainder of the time despite having numerous chances to break and possibly score they chose to protect their lead and it paid off.

Now with 20 points AmaZulu have a realistic chance of surviving the relegation battle despite being dead last still; their recent form has been far superior than that of the teams that sit just above them.
