The Funeral of Collins Chabane attended by Jacob ZumaCollins Chabane was a South African politician who was the member of the African National Congress (ANC) and the Member of Parliament of South Africa.

He served in the ANC’s National Executive Committee and was the Minister of Public Service and Administration from May 2014 until his death on March 15, 2015.

He died last week in the early hours of Sunday Morning of March 15, 2015 after his car collided with a truck on the N1 between Mokopane and Polokwane in his home province of Limpopo.

In his car he was travelling with his two bodyguards,  Sergeants Lesiba Sekele and Lawrence Lentsoane, who also died instantly upon impact.

On Saturday March 21, 2015 Collins Chabane‘s funeral services was held at his home village of Xikundu in Malamulele in the Limpopo province.

“He [Collins Chabane] is laid to rest on Human Rights Day, which on its own symbolises his unwavering commitment to the entrenchment of the human rights culture in our country,” President Jacob Zuma said during the funeral service.

The funeral was attended by colleagues, friends and family, among the notable mourners who were there ; President Jacob Zuma, Nathi Mthethwa, Mandla Mandela, Baleka Mbete and Zweli Mkhize.

Delivering a eulogy at that funeral, President Jacob Zuma praised Collins Chabane for his work ethic; “He was able to get the work done and to obtain support and understanding.

“He had good plans about taking the department and the public service forward, and we all have a responsibility to take his vision forward.

“His passion was to improve the functioning of frontline service department and the performance of frontline staff who deal with the public directly,” Jacob Zuma said while delivering the eulogy.

Collins Chabane leaves behind his mother who is reportedly 95 years old, his wife (Mavis Chabane) and two children.

It is understood that he was one (1) of eleven (11) children and also has surviving siblings.

Collins Chabane was 54 years old.
