Cassper Nyovest at the 14th Annual Metro FM AwardsThe Metro FM Music Awards are an annual Music Awards events that recognize South African artists; in 2009 and 2011 they were not held but returned in 2012 and have been held since.

The awards are organized by the South African Broadcasting Corporation Radio’s (SABC Radio) Metro FM, the largest commercial radio station in South Africa.

In 2014 the 13th Annual Metro Annual Metro FM Music Awards were held at at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) in the city of Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa and in 2015 on February 28 the ceremony was once again held at the same venue.

Ahead of the ceremony Cassper Nyovest was leading the nominees list with seven (7) nominations, AKA was nominated six (6) times – the seventh being where he was featured in Duncan’s “Tsiki Tsiki” Remix alongside Professor as well as Mampintsha and K.O was nominated six times.

The nominations of AKA, Cassper Nyovest and K.O is in line and supports sustained reports of the emergence of South African hip hop; the three artists enjoyed great success in 2014 with the release of their albums Levels (AKA, 2nd), Tsholofelo (Cassper Nyovest, Debut) and Skhanda Republic (K.O, Debut).

Their successes of 2014 led to a brief bitter feud between Cassper Nyovest and AKA over who’s song was more successful; the feud gave birth to or at least inspired Cassper Nyovest‘s “Phumakim” and “Beef” – and was later mentioned in Kwesta‘s “King Speech”.

In the ensuing feud between AKA and Cassper Nyovest and in the wake of MTV Base’s 2014 Top 10 list of South Africa’s hottest MCs K.O became collateral damage in Cassper Nyovest’s “Beef”.

Cassper Nyovest later apologized to K.O and following their (Cassper Nyovest and AKA) drama at the South African Hip Hop Music Awards the pair reconciled.

Going in the the 14th Annual Metro FM Music Awards it was all healthy competition with the trio leading the nominations; it was always going to be the case of winners and losers as they are in direct competition.

As we have all learned, Cassper Nyovest reigned supreme at the 14th Annual Metro FM Music Awards with five (5) wins out of a possible eight (8).

Cassper Nyovest was nominated in the following categories; “Song of the Year” for “Doc Shebeleza” (won) and “Phumakim”, “Best Hit Single” (won) for “Doc Shebeleza”, “Best Remix” (won by Duncan ft. AKA, Professor and Mampintsha for “Tsiki Tsiki Remix) for “Doc Shebeleza Remix”, “Best Music Video” (won by DJ Fisherman for “Call Out”) for “Doc Shebeleza”, “Best Hip Hop Album” (won) for Tsholofelo and “Best Male Album” (won) for Tsholofelo – he also won a Metro FM Special Award, Listener’s Choice.

AKA picked one award out of a possible six while K.O went home empty handed and The Soil picked up two out of a possible four.

The ceremony was hosted by Minnie Dlamini and T-Bo Touch with Pearl Modiadie in the Social Media Lounge as well as Tsholofelo Maseko and Mzambiya at the Public Viewing Area at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
