Brazil concede 10 goals in 2 matches while Netherlands finish 3rd

Netherlands helped Brazil cap their dismal run with a further three goals on top of the seven they conceded against Germany in the now infamous Mineirazo at the 2014 Fifa World Cup held in their country, this takes Brazil’s tally to an embarrassing 10 goals in 2 matches while only managing 1 goal.

Netherlands-3rdIn the wake of the Mineirazo and Netherlands defeat against Argentina, Brazil had to travel to the capital of their country to face Netherlands at Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha, Brasília in a game nobody wanted to play.

It became clear that Brazil were in for yet another long day at the office on the third minute when Arjen Robben was fouled on the edge of the box and referee gave a penalty and Robin van Persie made no mistake.

In a match deprived of dramatics, an obviously somber occasion for both nations, they continued to probe and Brazil seemed to believe that they might still comeback even though still bruised and battered from the events of the Mineirazo.

On the 17th minute, Daley Blind took advantage of the dejected Brazilians and put the Dutch 2 goals ahead. Brazil was clearly not up to the task as their efforts were mediocre at best and hardly showed any signs or desire to overturn the deficit.

In the 1st minute of stoppage time (90+1′)  Georginio Wijnaldum put it well beyond doubt for the Dutch as he netted the third and final goal of the Dutch and the match.

Netherlands finish the 2014 Fifa World Cup third, this is their second consecutive top 3 finish as they were the finalists at the 2010 Fifa World Cup held in South Africa.
