Muvhango, 2015 – to date

In late 2014 Bontle Sithole was cast as Busi Motsamai on SABC 2’s flagship soap opera, Muvhango, to replace the then outgoing Omuhle Gela who’s departure became public in October 2014.

Bontle Sithole and Mona MonyaneShe reportedly heard about Muvhango auditions through a friend a day before they were supposed to take place and decided to try her luck, a day after auditioning she received a call notifying her that she got the part.

Omuhle Gela was quoted saying to her replacement, “best wishes to the young lady [Bontle Sithole] who is about to take over and thanks to the channel [SABC 2]  for giving me the opportunity.”

In January 2015 she made her debut on Muvhango as Busi Motsamai, a university student who becomes infatuated with her professor [portrayed by Tsepo Desando].

Bontle Sithole is the fifth actress to portray the character of Busi Motsamai, the daughter of Doobsie Mukwevho and James Motsamai, who spent some time in Japan.

When Bontle Sithole took over the role of Busi Motsamai, the character was at the University and the story-lines involved her embarking on a relationship with her professor which culminates in a sex tape that ends up being public knowledge.

  • Public Reaction to Her Story Line on Muvhango

Bontle Sithole was reportedly harassed by the public on social media and at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) where she is a student in the wake of her Muvhango story line.

“I was on the verge of deregistering. It’s been hard for me, especially on social media, where the comments are posted and re-tweeted,” she was quoted by the Sunday World.

hey always look at me in this weird way,” she said.

“It’s especially the older women working on campus. Many people believe everything they see on TV. I try to explain that this is a play, the storyline was meant for people to learn from it, especially young girls.

“We are trying to show the public how young girls fall into dangerous situations because of temptations, and later regret all the mess they find themselves in.

“I don’t have the time to explain myself to each and everyone. It’s mainly the females who are making my life difficult, not males. On social media, my situation has been unbearable. It got to a point where I just couldn’t handle it,” Bontle Sithole was quoted by the Sunday World.

“[I] kind of knew the sex tape would cause a sensation because that’s what is happening in real life. Men are taking advantage of young women, and the girls fall into the trap,” she continued.

In that article Bontle Sithole concluded by saying, “I’ve overcome everything, I’m fine now”.

“I hope the message has been loud and clear to the young girls – out there – for them not to be taken advantage of and to those who believe everything they see on TV is real,” she was quoted.
