Bafana Bafana Coach Shakes MashabaThe victory means Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba will travel with the team to Equatorial Guinea for the 2015 Orange CAF African Cup of Nations, due to start on Saturday January 17, 2015, undefeated.

Since returning to the helm of the South African Senior Men’s National Team (Bafana Bafana) Shakes Mashaba has led the team on ten (10) occasions recording six (6) victories, four (4) draws and zero (0) defeats.

Going into the match against Mali, a team that eliminated the Gordon Igesund led Bafana Bafana in the 2013 Orange CAF African Cup of Nations on penalties, Shakes Mashaba made six changes to the squad that faced Cameroon on Saturday January 10, 2015.

Those changes were Bernard Parker (FW), Brilliant Khuzwayo (GK), Oupa Manyisa (MF) and Themba Zwane (MF) while Rivaldo Coetzee (DF) and Tokelo Rantie (FW) missed out as a result of injury.

Bongani Ndulula, Jackson Mabokgwane, Mandla Masango, Thuso Phala, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Siyabonga Nhlapo were introduced to the starting lineup – Andile Jali took over the captaincy from fellow midfielder Dean Furman.

Bafana Bafana opened the scoring in the 37th minute following a foul on Bongani Ndulula, Mandla Masango took the free-kick curling into the box and Thulani Hlatshwayo headed the ball into the net.

At half-time South Africa (Bafana Bafana) was leading Mali by 1-0.

In the 63rd minute Bongani Ndulula had his shot cleared of the line and in the 65th minute Mustapha Yatabaré nearly put Mali on level terms but was denied by the woodwork before Bafana Bafana cleared.

In the 82nd minute Sibusiso Vilakazi put South Africa 2-0 up following and interplay with Andile Jali before rounding the Mali goalkeeper and put the ball in the open net.

In the 85th minute made it 3-0 for Bafana Bafana; his first shot was saved and he got hold of the rebound and made no mistake.

Bafana Bafana‘s victory over Mali has been hailed as a massive confidence booster ahead of the 2015 Orange CAF African Cup of Nations.
