ANC MP Timothy Khoza dies in a car crash

The African National Congress Member of Parliament Timothy Khoza died in a car crash near Paarl on Wednesday morning after the car he was traveling in overturned. The three injured MPs have been identified as Nomalungela Gina of the ANC, Ian Ollis of the the Democratic Alliance and Cynthia Majeke of the United Democratic Movement.

“It is with heavy hearts that the African National Congress has learnt of a car accident in the Western Cape involving four Members of Parliament during an oversight visit,” national spokesperson for the ANC Zizi Kodwa said on Wednesday.

“In the accident, one of our ANC MPs comrade Timothy Khoza tragically lost his life. The African National Congress sends its heartfelt condolences to the family of comrade Khoza. He died in the line of duty, serving his country and his people. May his family, his comrades find comfort in a life lived for the betterment of the lives of others.”

Spokesperson for Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, Elijah Mhlanga said, “It has come as a huge shock to her because these are people that she works with on a daily basis. And these are the people that hold her to account. When we go to Parliament we account to them. We have to answer difficult questions from them about the work that we do.”

Chief Whip for the Democratic Alliance (DA) John Steenhuisen was quoted saying, “At this stage, details are still sketchy but it looks like this was a very serious accident indeed and a number of MPs have confirmed being injured. The DA sends our condolences, prayers and thoughts to all those involved in the accident.”
