Kaizer Chiefs welcomed MTN 8 defending champions Platinum Stars to FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg on August 24, 2014 on the back of the 2-0 away victory. Kaizer Chiefs overwhelmed Platinum Stars 2-0 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Phokeng in the North West  on Saturday August 16, 2014.

Kaizer Chiefs began the match with a clear intention of picking up where they left off at Royal Bafokeng in Phokeng as they began probing in the early stages of the match against a tricky opponent.

Platinum Stars did not standby and watched as Kaizer Chiefs did all the pushing, they did their best but something failed to work out every time they advanced towards the final third.

On the 29th minute George Maluleka picked up where he left off at Royal Bafokeng when he slotted home a Kaizer Chiefs free-kick and put Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 (3-0 on aggregate).

Platinum Stars were staring down the barrel and they knew it, their sudden sense of urgency after the 30th minute was indicative of the fact they believed they had a chance of coming back into the tie. After the last 15 minutes of the first half nothing had materialized for Platinum Stars.

Platinum Stars began the second half looking the sharpest of the two sides but Kaizer Chiefs absorbed the pressure and shifted the momentum ever so slightly in their favour. On the 57th minute Kaizer Chiefs had changed the completion of the game completely as Reneilwe Letsholonyane score their second goal and put the home team 2-0 up (4-0 on aggregate).

What following were unrelenting exchanges from both sides but the Kaizer Chiefs quality continued to out shine that of Platinum Stars as they manage to cut them off at every turn while launching threatening counters.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns man Katlego Mphela finished off Platinum Stars in stoppage time with a clumsy finish that saw him fail to celebrate his goal due to an ankle injury. The final score was 3-0 (4-0 on aggregate).

Kaizer Chiefs’ victory sets up a dream final between two Soweto giants, the Soweto Derby.

After the match a draw was done to determine the home team and Orlando Pirates were drawn first. However, this does not mean the match will be played at Orlando Stadium, it means Orlando Pirates will have home team advantage including choosing their colours and change rooms first at whatever stadium to be decided on later on.
