The Royalty Soapie Awards will take place for the second time ever on March 28, 2015 at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) in the city of Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal of South Africa.

The first edition of the awards in 2014 e.tv’s soap operas Scandal! and Rhythm City were the most notable and conspicuous absentees.

Mzansi Magic’s telenovela turned soap opera, Isibaya, was the biggest winner in the debut edition of Royalty Soap Awards.

Isibaya won 10 out of 18 categories including; Outstanding Soapie, Outstanding Lead Actor (Siyabonga Twala) and Outstanding Lead Actress (Thembi Nyandeni).

Isibaya’s dominance of the inaugural Royalty Soapie Awards extended to technical categories including; Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Art Direction, Outstanding Make-Up, Outstanding Casting Director, Outstanding Lighting and Outstanding Editing.

The 2nd Annual Royalty Soapie has been embraced by e.tv’s two soap operas; Scandal! and Rhythm City.

However, it also sees notable absentees, those being; Generations and Binnelanders.

The absence of Generations was not clarified but the show was off air for a period of two months which resulted in it being excluded from this year’s South African Film and Television Awards.

Also, the founder of the Royalty Soapie Awards (Winnie Modise) is one (1) of sixteen (16) who were fired from that show.

Numerous publications have reported that Binnelanders has been “shut out” which does not provide sufficient clarity as to whether or not they were not willing to take part or were disallowed by organizers or simply did not meet the required standard – however – it is important to note that Binnelanders was nominated at the 9th Annual South African Film and Television Awards held on March 22, 2015.

The nominees for the 2nd Annual Royalty Soapie Awards were announced at a ceremony held on February 19, 2015 at The Venue in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg in the Gauteng province of South Africa.
