The 2015 Nedbank Cup Final was a single elimination football match contested between Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The match took place on Saturday afternoon of May 16, 2015 at 3pm (15:00) at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in the city of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

The match marked Roger De Sá’s first cup final appearance as the head coach of Ajax Cape Town, at his previous club – Orlando Pirates, he orchestrated three successive cup final appearances including that of the 2013 CAF Champions League.

Roger De Sá was however unable to win any of those cup finals; his Orlando Pirates succumbed to Platinum Stars on two successive occasions (2013 MTN 8 and 2013 Telkom Knockout) before going down 3-1 on aggregate to Al Ahly of Egypt  after playing to a 1-all draw at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa and losing 2-0 at The Arab Contractors Stadium (Osman Ahmed Osman Stadium) in Cairo, Egypt.

Following the departure of Roger De Sá from Orlando Pirates the club went on to reach the 2014 Nedbank Final and won it under the guidance of coach Vladimir Vermezović as well the 2014 MTN 8 final later succumbing 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs.

The 2015 Nedbank Cup final also marked Pitso Mosimane’s first cup final at the helm of the Tshwane giants, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pitso Mosimane spent six (6) years from 2006 to 2012 in the South African Senior Men’s National Team (Bafana Bafana) as an assistant coach (2006 to 2010) and later as a head coach (2010 to 2012).

His (Pitso Mosimane) two year stint at the helm of Bafana Bafana was beyond dismal, it only served to perpetuate the decline of the already troubled national team.

Perhaps Pitso Mosimane’s lowest point as the head coach of Bafana Bafana was the Mbombela nightmare when he played for a draw, succeeded and the players celebrated as if they had won and qualified for the 2012 African Cup of Nations only to learn they had not.

Pitso Mosimane was later fired from Bafana Bafana after he played a 1-all draw with Ethiopia at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Phokeng in the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

He joined Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2012/13 when they were facing hard times and flirting with the relegation zone.

Pitso Mosimane successfully pulled the ailing giants away from the Absa Premiership teens and later guided them to a 10th place finish.

In the 2013/14 season Pitso Mosimane led Mamelodi Sundowns to the sixth Absa Premiership title.

The 2015 South African Cup (Nedbank Cup) final appearance was the first cup final appearance by Mamelodi Sundowns under the mentorship of coach Pitso Mosimane.
