The 2014/15 Premier Soccer League Awards nominees were announced on Tuesday May 12, 2015 where Kaizer Chiefs central defenders Tefu Mashamaite and Mulomowandau Mathoho emerged as the most nominated players respectively.

The 2014/15 Premier Soccer League Awards took place on Sunday night of May 17, 2015 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Sandton City in the city of Johannesburg in the Gauteng province of South Africa.

The awards ceremony was broadcast live on the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) SABC 1 and on Multichoice’s SuperSport.

Minnie Dlamini and Thomas Mlambo co-hosted the ceremony on behalf of the SABC 1 while Carol Tshabalala and Robert Marawa co-hosted on behalf of SuperSport.

In recent years it has become a norm for one player to dominate the awards and take home almost all in not all major prizes including Player of the Season (voted for by all sixteen Premiership coaches) and Player’s Player of the Season (voted for by fellow players).

In seasons gone-by players such as Siyabonga Nomvethe (while at Moroka Swallows), Itumeleng Khune (while at Kaizer Chiefs) and Sibusiso Vilakazi (while at BidVest Wits) dominated the awards earning themselves monies in excess on half a million rand or more.

Of all the players mentions above Siyabonga Nomvethe won big at the 2011/12 Premier Soccer League Awards after he was an integral part of the Gordon Igesund led Moroka Swallows that lost the Premiership title on the last day of league matches to Augusto Palacios led Orlando Pirates.

At one point in that season that Orlando Pirates squad, captained by the long serving Lucky Lekgwathi, held every Premier Soccer League sanctioned title and eventually completed the second consecutive domestic treble.

Siyabonga Nomvethe, a key talisman at Moroka Swallows, scored 20 goals in the league and brought the unlikely runners-up within two points of the eventual champions.

In the 2014/15 Premier Soccer League season it was Kaizer chiefs central defender Tefu Mashamaite who won big including Player of the Season (voted for by all sixteen Premiership coaches) and Player’s Player of the Season (voted for by fellow players).

Tefu Mashamaite was a key figure in the Kaizer Chiefs squad that won it’s second League and Cup double in three seasons under coach Stuart Baxter; he captained that club in the absence of Itumeleng Khune and scored the goal that secured 2014 MTN 8 in the final against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

It was reported that after being announced as the Player of the Season, Tefu Mashamaite handed over the award to fellow teammate Mulomowandau Mathoho. Tefu Mashamaite reportedly did this as he felt that all his team mates contributed equally to the success of the club, particularly his fellow central defender (Mulomowandau Mathoho).
