That world cup of 1978, the 11th Edition, was held in Argentina, and it was also Argentina who went on to win it.

The host nation gains automatic qualification as a result of being the host, the other 31 participant nations go through a process of qualifying in their respective confederations.

The 2014 world cup also saw all Fifa World Cup winners since 1930 qualify for the competition including the host nation, Brazil.

These nations are Argentina, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Uruguay.

Spain being the last to do so when they defeated The Netherlands 1-0 in the last Fifa World Cup held in South Africa in 2010.

All in all, 64 competitive matches will be place across 12 cities in Brazil.

The 2014 Fifa World Cup will see the introduction of a goal line technology for the first time ever in the Fifa World Cup Tournament.

This will also be the first time that two consecutive Fifa World Cup tournaments are helf outside Europe, with the previous World Cup held in South Africa.

That world cup was also the very first to be held in Africa.
